Get Your Free Credit Report, No Trial!
You’re constantly seeing those commercials on TV, where you’re offered a free credit report, only to learn that the “free” credit report is only free if you sign up for some monthly credit monitoring service. Well you’ll be glad to learn (or be reminded) that you are entitled to receive one (1) absolutely free credit report (no trial) from each of the three major credit reporting companies. That’s a total of three free credit reports (no trial) a year, since Equifax, Transunion, and Experian are EACH required to send you one free credit report a year, provided that you do ask for it. And since every person probably does their stuff differently, the companies have all taken the necessary steps so that you have several options on how you choose to ask for your free credit report, no trial.
Of course, with identity theft being so prevalent, you will be submitted to a relatively robust identity verification process to make sure that you really are the person who’s asking for the free credit report, no trial. Remember that there’s very confidential and potentially damaging information in those reports, should this information fall into the wrong hands. As mentioned earlier, you have several options when requesting your free credit report: by phone, by mail, or online. In all cases, you will have to provide proof of identification, although I’d imagine that such a process is more tedious by snail mail.
If you request your free credit report, no trial, by mail or over the phone, you should receive it within a 2-3 week period. If you choose to go the online route, your free credit report will be shown to you instantly, so you can look it over and then do with it what you requested it for in the first place. Maybe you’ll even spot a few mistakes in it and take the necessary steps to have them corrected.
For most people’s needs, the free credit report, no trial, that the credit reporting companies are federally obligated to send you is all they really need. There are several circumstances, however, where this is not sufficient. First of all, if you have several credit issues that are negatively affecting your credit, you might need a monitoring service to keep an eye on your credit file. Secondly, the free credit report, no trial, doesn’t include your credit score. Getting your credit score is never free. So if you have to have your credit score, you will have no choice but to pay for it. Finally, if, for whatever reason, you have already requested all three of your no trial free credit reports for year (or twelve month period), then getting another credit report will mean that you will have to purchase it.
